Comeback victories

Yesterday, sitting in the nosebleed section of the American Airlines Center with Kath and Anne at the Mavericks game, I learned an important lesson about winning.

For most of the game, the Mavs didn’t have their heads right. The game started at noon — eight hours earlier than most of their games tip off — and you could tell. The lowly Toronto Raptors had the Mavs down by 24 points and were putting on a three-point show.

But in the last half of the last quarter — the final 6 minutes — the Mavs came alive. They came back all the way to force overtime, and then, with one second left, good old Dirk Nowitzki sank the game-winning shot.

The team could have given up and left all of us $12 ticket-buyers disappointed, but they came back after being way down for 7/8 of the game.

That’s the kind of heroic effort I’ve got to put in to get into law school. I got my LSAT score on Friday. It wasn’t what I had hoped for. I’m behind by 10 points with less than half of the fourth quarter left to go. The Mavs reminded me that I don’t need to give up now. I need to work harder. I can still win.
