The calm before the storm
While driving home from Anne’s birthday celebration last weekend, we came through some light rain and were about to cross Lake Ray Hubbard and pass 635, the big loop that mostly encircles Dallas, when the clouds grew darker and more ominous. It wasn’t raining on us at the time.
I was a little freaked out by the dark sky, but Chelsea saw the beauty in it.
“It’s the calm before the storm,” she said.
A few seconds later, the sky opened up and dumped 6 inches of rain on us and the rest of Dallas.
Since then, the rain has stopped, but we still feel like we’re caught in a bit of a whirlwind. My basement-level office flooded with about four inches of water, so the other SMU e-marketers and I have tried working from home, with limited success. We’re headed back to campus today to see if we can find a temporary workspace while they move all our belongings out to replace the carpet.
The other flurry of activity has been house-related. Chelsea monitored the inspection on Monday, which went well, and we’ve been dotting our i’s and crossing our x’s on a number of financial-type house things.
Oh yeah, and did I mention we’re moving in a week?
Things haven’t been too stressful. Just busy. We just need to take a page from my Mema’s playbook, and “keep on keeping on.”
