Beddy-bye

Our bed is whiteChelsea had a sleepless night last week thinking about the big move.

She couldn’t sleep because she was consumed with thoughts of painting our brown Ethan Allen dressers and bed set white. I was a little nervous about the whole concept, since the furniture was given to us by my mom and dad and it had been in the family almost as long as I have been. But I went for it, as long as she got permission from my parents when we visited my sister. My mom said it was our furniture to do with as we wanted, so the painting project began.

Like a good future home owner, Chel first took stock of our supplies on hand before heading to The Home Depot, to see if there were ways to cut costs on the project. Lo and behold, she found a large container of white paint in the garage that was ours for the using! After hauling it in, we discovered an important word on the label that kept us from using it on the furniture. That word was “Exterior.”

Her trip to the Home Depot got her all the needed supplies — sandpaper, paintbrushes, and paint that was much more suitable for furniture. When she got home, I was watching a little TV, and noticed an ad for white bedding at Rooms To Go. It looked like a great deal — even better than painting ours ourselves — until the announcer said something like, “Get this white bed set and other great furniture for your little girls’ rooms, this weekend at Rooms To Go!”

So we had the possibility of going from a little boy’s room furniture to a little girl’s room. Great!

Once the painting began yesterday, the furniture did indeed begin to transform. We still have another coat to paint on this afternoon, but I daresay we are well on our way to completing Chelsea’s late-night vision of an oasis of bedding.

And that’s why Chel will always be in charge of decorating every portion of our home (except the man room). She comes up with a vision and finds a way to make it a beautiful (not too girly) reality.
