Flood prevention
We found out today that we are going to be displaced from our offices until around April 11. I have tried the working from home thing, and tried the finding a place on campus with Internet access, and I think I actually like being on campus better. (As much as I enjoy Sinatra’s company here at the house.) After my move gets settled this weekend I think I’m going to take my laptop to campus and just find a spot where I can work. That way, if somebody needs me to go to their office, it’s a lot easier than being stuck here at SMU-in-Oak Cliff.
When I was on campus the other day, I ran into a colleague who was asking about the flood. We got to talking about this possibly happening again, what with four days of rain in the forecast (which have not yet materialized). I asked her if she knew what SMU might be doing to prevent the flood from happening again.
“Yep,” she said. “Sandbags.”
I laughed, because I thought she was joking, and we went our separate ways. Then, when I walked out of our building, I saw this sitting there on the street:

She wasn’t kidding! So I’m hoping those little guys don’t have to be used anytime soon, and we can come up with a better way to keep from not having an office.
