Moving violations

What does it say about your weekend when you are really, really, really ready to get back to work?
Chelsea and I worked our patooties off this weekend and got the Big Move to Marydale completed without too many problems. We were lucky to get the keys on Thursday evening instead of Friday morning so we could get a head start on carting one of our 15 carloads of stuff (not counting boxes and furniture) to the new place.
We found a few surprises when we first unlocked the doors. Surprise 1 was in the Man Room: the sellers left the pool table, as promised, but took the cues and the balls! Guess we can just chalk that up as a lesson learned in spelling everything out in the contract. I later rectified the situation by purchasing a nice introductory billiards set at that great billiards accessory store, Wal-Mart.
Surprise 2 was also in the Man Room. The sellers left the tv and surround sound stereo, as promised, but took the batteries out of the remote controls. I’m just thankful they left the remotes, since the rule apparently is that you can take anything not attached to the house.
After those surprises, the rest were all pleasant. Little things like the mirror on the back of the door to the medicine cabinet in my (guest) bathroom. Or how nice a jet tub really is. (I thought Chel was blowing the whole thing out of proportion!)
There are a lot of little projects to do and little things to fix. I painted the kitchen yesterday, and Chelsea is fixing up the moulding in the bedrooms. The porch light has a short in it, and there’s a sprinkler head that’s missing in the yard. So we’re experiencing those joys of home ownership, but also some of the bigger joys. Like seeing Addy run laps around our backyard for the first time. Or watching Luca and Sinatra climb onto the ledge of the bay window in the kitchen. And did I mention that jet tub?
So add to the list of things I’m thankful for: First, our new home. And second, that I’m not a full-time mover, painter or landscaper!
