I feel like a real homeowner now.

Yesterday, I mowed our yard for the first time.

Mom and Dad offered us the use of their Toro push mower, which needed an engine tune-up, but since we weren’t sure when we were going to make it to the farm, and since the little yard was already sprouting some weeds, we made a Home Depot run the other day and bought the cheapest of the cheap lawn mowers.

After assembling the mower in the garage yesterday morning, I wheeled it out to the backyard grass. After several attempts to start the little guy, I finally pulled the cord and coerced it to start up. I would be done in no time, I thought.

The thing I discovered about yards is that while they may look extremely level, they can actually be quite mountainous. Pushing our little Yard Machines mower back and forth across the yard, I found out that Chelsea and I may actually be living just north of the Rockies. Either that or we’re right on a fault line.

And the front yard is even worse, because some genius put two trees with circular planter boxes right in the middle of the yard. Whoever put a circular obstacle in the middle of a yard has obviously never mowed said yard!

After we were done, Chelsea and I enjoyed a nice glass of water on the deck, and it was all worth it. The yard looked beautiful. And I get to look forward to my next workout with the Yard Machines, Ben-propelled push mower.
