The drive-in movies
Some of the best times are the ones you don’t plan for — like yesterday, when Chel and I decided to go to the drive-in movies.
We were planning a low-key Blockbuster night, and I had already gone to the store and picked out the DVD. But all of a sudden, we got the urge to go to the drive-in we had seen on the way to Galveston a couple weeks ago.
It was 8 p.m. and the movie started at 9, so we hustled to the car and headed down our favorite freeway to Ennis, about 30 miles south of downtown.
Apparently a lot of other people had the same idea. It was four lanes of bumper-to-bumper cars pulling in to one of four screens they had going:
For $6 a person we got a double-feature…a pretty good deal! We selected “Bruno” and “The Hangover” as our movies and drove over to a spot in front of screen four.
The snack bar in the center was hopping. We got a large popcorn, a large coke and a bottle of water for another $5.
We got some good laughs, but the overall experience was so much better than the movies themselves. We’ll definitely be back for another double feature.
